How?
In the habit of looking back to the past,
I cringe every time my life flashes before my eyes.
Everyone makes mistakes,
But I’ve made the greatest of them all.
So says everyone.
Regret feeds off our thoughts,
Hindering us from pushing forward.
We tell our brethren to get over it
But we fall deaf to our own advice.
Jesus mentioned it too so that’s incentive enough to remind ourselves that the people from the past are us no more.
The intrusive thoughts though,
They make it tough.
A brief flash through your mind
And the damage is done.
How then do you fight back?
How do you remember to forget?
Sometimes I think back and I cringe too. We all have our own scars and inner demons, but all we can do is move on a path of complete healing and forgiveness for ourselves, instead of torture, and let the past be. This is a lovely piece and its very human. Thank you.
